Why I think the jw's are a cult and not a religion
by Ron1968 infortunately, it is not the case with me but this deal about parents not talking to their children who have been disfellowshipped is horrid.
it is bad enough for those who have been disfellowshipped, but to have their own family turn on them?
as such, i think the jw's are a cult as they separate families.

With the NEW Harry Potter book out, What will the counsel be from JW LAND ?
by run dont walk inwith the frenzy going on worldwide, for the long awaited harry potter release (well no that long) (i let one of the girls off early from work the other night so she could get one for her daughter, she had about an half hour wait)($38.00 canadian).
anytime, there is a big item that people on the entire planet want, (books, games, movies, latest fads, latest tech stuff).
the watchtower has to put in their two cents.

I don't know, Harry Potter has been around for a while, and the movies have been very popular as well as the books. I don't recall hearing anything pointed in that direction by the organization, or even individuals. That may not be the case everywhere but that's been my experience.

On this site the working definition for cult is "a religion I don't like."
Most people associate cults with a charismatic leader, which certainly is not the case with JWs, I can't think of anyone that has been charismatic in the history of the organization, not even Russell.

Have you or have you known someone disfellowshipped more than once??
by anakinsrise ini cam close to being disfellowshipped once,i was a servant so they only took awy all of my duties, and priv's.but i know a sister even dated her for 10 months who has been disfellowshipped 3 times.it was kind of funny because her 2 fleshly sisters got disfellow'ed around the same time and they all didnt seem to care and went to jamaica for 3 weeks.1 of them even came back pregnant.

I knew one very prominent elder who was disfellowshipped three times! He made a rapid return to prominence when he was reinstated the first time, pretty slow the second time, never returned from the third. Very able, good speaker, personable, connected, couldn't keep his zipper up.

Voting Bush out
by Jayson inwhat is the best campaign stratagy to win against him?
be serious this is to win the minds of american voters not to polerize them against you.
otherwise it's a plug for him.. i think that the one real weakness is unemployment in america.

Simon you are completely out of touch with the American people. His poll numbers are extremely good for the circumstances and the Democrats don't have a credible opponent.

Could the JW's survive without elders?
by JH inwhat would happen if no one wanted to be an elder?
who would teach the congregation?
who would manage everything in the congregation?

Yes, that's always an issue. The guy I know that turned it down had real serious family responsibilites with a wife who was ill and his response was accepted an even admired by some, but that wouldn't always be the case.

Naw, the judge was actually a Witness mole that's been undercover in his role as a judge just in case this issue came up.

As to the original question, you always have to have someone in charge, whatever you call them, and you will never run out of people willing to be in charge. The question is really kind of meaningless, no offense intended. The Catholics might be short of priests but I haven't noticed them shutting up shop.

Hilary I believe you're right. I only knew one guy that turned down an appointment. The reality is that most men want the position because it's an affirmation that they're doing the right thing. Course you're swimming upstream here because most don't want to hear that.

Amazing isn't it, everyone's in love with the law, until it doesn't do what they want.
